8/27/2008 - Construction Injury case

Gorham and Associates represented a 42 year old man who was working construction in Etowah county.  He was employed by a subcontractor.  He was framing the foundation to a single family home when a crane operator employed by a different company struck him with a hose being used to pump construction materials onto the job site.  He was not injured by the blow but was knocked off a 10 foot high wall and sustained injuries to his neck and arms.  His employer did not carry the required workers compensation coverage and our client did not have health insurance.  His medical bills exceeded $100,000.00.  He was facing bankrupcy. After conducting over two dozen depositions, we established that the crane operator was a newly hired trainee and the company failed to warn other workers of this fact.  The case was resolved for a seven figure confidential settlement.
