There were 380,000 large trucks involved in
motor vehicle crashes in 2008 in the United
States. Of those, 4,066 were involved in
fatal wrecks. 4,229 people died in 2008
after being involved in a wreck with a large
truck and another 90,000 were injured.
Distracted driving continues to be a leading
cause of motor vehicle crashes. In 2009, 20
percent of injury crashes involved
distracted driving. 995 deaths in motor
vehicle crashes in 2009 were reported to
involve distracted drivers using cell
phones. In 2009 5,474 deaths were reported
in the United States for motor vehicle
crashes involving distracted drivers and it
is estimated that another 448,000 were
injured. 20 years of age and younger were
the most likely to be involved in a fatal
car wreck involving distracted driving.
